Wiggly Fingers; Warm Hands

Aaaages ago a very lovely lady gave me a huge bag of wheat and told me to do something with it. I've wanted to make a wheat neck cushion for months and still haven't - but I did make handwarmers in the shape of little russian dolls!

They're made out of felt and were really easy to make once I sorted out a template. I printed a few pictures of matryoshka dolls from google images and then just decided to make my own. With the first completed pair (the green and blue ones) I machine stitched the pieces onto the body and whip-stitched around the edge but for the pink ones I completely hand stitched them and it looked a lot nicer. The flowers are pre-made ones from stampin' up that I'm very happy to have found a use for because I think they're really cute!

I made a little pouch for the wheat out of some old cotton fabric and slipped it inside. The back of the dolls folds over so that the wheat bag can be taken out but I don't think it's really going to do any harm just staying in there. They go in the microwave for 30 seconds and stay warm for about 20 minutes in a pocket :D.

Sock Monkey the II

I loved Sim's monkey so much that I had to make my own.

Sadly this little guy has gone down to Cornwall to my brother but I think I might have to make a whole sock monkey army pretty soon.

A Pretty Little Box

So this is a little box that I made for the fabric jewellery to go in. It folds open like a pizza box but is about 2" deep so that everything fits inside nicely.

The little rose is made of my favourite material ever - FELT :D - to make it I cut a super skinny strip of felt (about .5 x 20cm), rolled it up into a little spiral and then glued a circle of felt onto the back to keep it all together. I made a little label and put on a couple of sparkly squares in the corner et voilĂ !

(I made myself a brooch rose too in just the same way, only with a safety pin in the back, but it looks a little too hippy for my liking when it's actually on clothes and not a box so it's sitting on my dressing table now).

The Primarrrrrrk Couture Collection :P

Ok so my pri of the mark varitety special jumper got the chop and we both know everyone owns at least one of those bad boys...huh hmm or two!

So as i've been into the waterfall cardigans my jumpers have been left in the wardrobe. I decided to be brave got out my scissors and just chop away. I should have really taken pictures of the actual jumper beforehand but you get the idea with this one:

Before, normal boring jumper:
OK, so first off was the sleeves and then I sewed round the shortened arm holes. I took another top I had and used it as a guide for how much of the sleeve I wanted to leave (as I wasn't following anything but my head)

Then to make all the flower detail I used the sleeve material I had just chopped off. For the long strands I used the cuffs cut into strips and loosely placed back on the jumper as they had a nice ribbed detail and for the flowers I cut strips of the arm material and wound them round into a circle and hand tacked them into a flowerish shape.

Then I layed all the flowers and strands over the jumper and arranged into place until I was happy and hand sewed it all into place.
Closer inspection of my flower / strands :) I was surprised how little time this actually took.

I have worn my new jumper once and it actually feels like a new piece of clothing which seems odd to me! So this inspired me to continue and revamp one of my skirts.

So again another disused piece of clothing, which was a really long browny beige skirt. First thing, I chopped the skirt to knee length which instantly made it look 100% better. Then I took one of Dan's shirts, shhh still don't think he's realised it's missing and sewed a massive strip 2" long to fit around the whole bottom on the skirt, to hang slightly below the brown skirt material and machine stitched this on. I probably should have pinned everything but that would have taken time and just held it steady.
Next using the cuffs again (like the jumper)  I made the same type of flowers and then took a couple of rectangles of material on which I zig zagged over the top to make some kind of design on the front of the skirt:
I should have ironed it for the picture but we both know i'm not really into that!! And the final article ready for Blankee's inspection.......

Watch out Primarrrrrrk- the couture range is on its way!

Fabric Jewellery

I made these as a present for my friend's birthday a few days ago. I was really happy with the bracelets but the necklace looked a little better when it was still in my head. To make the red bracelets I cut strips of fabric (about 2cms wide) and wrapped them around until everything was covered and then coated them in fabric glue to stop the edges fraying. For the white bracelet it wrapped white ribbon around and used a dot of hot glue to keep it in place and to attach the little green bow.
I got the idea for the necklace over at http://www.rufflesandstuff.com/search?q=necklace, although those ones look a lot prettier than mine. To make it I took a piece of white ribbon (about half a metre) and threaded the beads on to it, folding the ribbon to create the ruffles and then attached it to the chain. I made the flower by cutting three circles the same size and ruffling them in the middle, then sewing on a button to make the centre.

The card was made with the same fabric as the bracelets and necklace. I made it by machine sewing the fabric onto a folded piece of cardstock around the edge and across the ribbon and then trimming the edges. I then layered and glued pre-cut card flowers on and added the button.
-- Pretty simple but I wish I'd had Blankee's expertise to help x

Mr.Sock Monkey

Ok, so bit scared as this is the first blog (little clap please) and it is Mr.Sock Monkey that I made for Dan's Christmas stocking. Here is where I found the pattern http://www.santaspostbag.co.uk/how-to-make-sock-monkeys-christmas-toy.shtml and as it looked pretty straight forward I did what came naturally and asked Blankee to help.

Half way through ( Blankee giving his inspection )

I used the sewing machine for the legs, arms and tail seams. Then I had to handstitch everything onto the body even the mouth! And finally.......(wiggly finger action please.....)

Mr.Sock Monkey showing off his moves. Not bad for my first sock experience :)
